Breeding time is always an exciting and busy time of year, and it's full of planning.

After almost putting Valmunder down last year for poor health, Clara put her amazing healing skills to work and got Valmunder back to breeding strength. Amazing! If there's an ewe with dense fleece but she doesn't have the eye catching curly halo of long fiber, Valmunder is the guy for her!

Nokkvi is a fairly new addition to our flock, and we're excited for the opportunity to use him! He brings some impressive leg width and muscling that our flock could really use, and we're super excited to see his lambs this spring! With his largely unrelated genetics, we're using him on quite a few ewes this year. You'll notice that we're also breeding him to several polled ewes. We're using him strategically to bring in the stockier frame to our polled lines through several carefully selected polled ewes.

Topas is an amzing ram owned by Dianne Graves. He brings great conformation, fleece, and muscling. This will be our first time using AI on the sheep, and we're really excited to see how it goes! You may be wondering why we're breeding him to scurred/hybrid horned ewes. These ewes are out of specific horned/polled crosses that we did several years ago to bring several great polled ewes into the horned lines. Frequently, the F1 lambs from those crosses end up with interesting horns, and it takes another generation to get to the full horns. So we're hoping that with another generation bred to horned, we'll get some absolutely amazing lambs!

Similar to Topas (above), we're using Hreindyr on heterozygous polled ewes to hopefully bring in full horns. These girls have thrown some of our best lambs in the past year or two, and breeding them to Hreindyr will hopefully give us an incredible ram we can use instead of fully relying on AI. We were really picky about the girls we chose to use AI on, because our goal is to get a great replacement for the AI ram.

Prince himself isn't what I'd call the most impressive looking guy on the planet, but his lambs have been pretty stunning. His lambs are fast growers, and have stunning fleece. Not quite what I'd expected from him, but really great nonetheless.

Initially, we weren't sure we wanted to use Cort again this year, but watching his lambs grow this summer made us reconsider. They grew well, demonstrated impressive respiratory health, and have nice conformation.

Cedric is an impressive looking ram lamb, and we decided to try him out this year. We usually try to avoid using rams as lambs, and at minimum not use them on very many girls, so Cedric got to try his luck with only one very nice ewe. We'll see how his lambs turn out this coming year! He's got very nice legs, long, dense fleece, and has pretty nice rib and chest width!
