Bulls & Reference Sires

While we have certainly gained an appreciation for having a live bull available for breeding and have had some simply delightful bulls grow up on our place they do take some specialized care and right now we are happy to be using AI bulls. AI bulls are nice because you can use more than one bull for your herd without having to actually house the bulls. Now all we need to do is get someone trained in AI so we don't have to call on AI techs at all the worst times.

Oliver was a bull out of Bessie and the popular Sure Shot Legend. He had a beautiful topline, great legs and a wonderful long lean body. He is the bull who taught us the value of live cover for first time mamas. We tried AI for Ellie multiple times and were starting to wonder if she'd ever get pregnant. So, we put her in with Oliver, who, though her half brother, had a number of body type characteristics that could balance her well. He got the job done, we got Sage, and after that Ellie took the first time from AI for every pregnancy since.

Yeah for live bulls!!!

Legend is sure a handsome bull! We did learn that he throws large calves. We got his semen when he was first collected, and now looking at him, I don't think we would've picked him if we'd known how he'd grow out. He threw two calves for us, and both are now passed. The first was PV Summer, and the second was PV Oliver. Both matured at midsize.
